March is Reading Month Celebrated!!!   I couldn’t stop smiling watching these middle school students dancing with their books.  Please take a moment and check this out. I Gotta a Feeling… These kids truely know how fun reading can be.

March is Reading Month  at  The Reading Tree and we decided to focus on the theme Lights, Camera, Action … Be A Reading Star. 

 As we explore how many of our favorite movies actually started out in print as a book, we rejoice in the over whelming response that The Book Was Better!  We are collecting reviews from kids who have read the book and gone to see the movie.  What fun to see their opinions.  Kids are amazed at how Hollywood has the freedom to change the book as they see fit.  Some kids love seeing their favorite stories come to life, others don’t like the story lines as they are so different from their imagined storylines.  What do you think?

Diary of a Wimpy Kid the Movie…Release on March 19th

I love this time of year (well not the weather cause that stinks) but the UPS man who brings new product daily.  Every time I open a box I think I am the luckiest person in the world.  The smell of the new books and the crisp pages of  new titles that I have only seen briefly. Then the excitement of which one I will read first.  So today I picked a new series by Ron Roy… Calendar Mysteries for 2 and 3 graders.  It has a 2.4 reading level and is very similar to his A-Z Mysteries.  “January Joker” is true to itself as the kids discover what they think might be alien tracks along with strange yellow lights.  As they discover the truth in the end, the junior sleuths never have a boring moment along the way.  Beginning readers will love the suspense and have fun guessing as they read.  This would be an easy writing example to have kids finish or make predictions.  February Friend and March Mischief are the next two books in the series.

Nothing is more frustrating then having a passion for something and not being able to share it with others.  I love books, not just certain books but pretty much all books.  They take me places that I wouldn’t ever dream of, they paint pictures in my brain that I may never see and they truely can give me that “Calgon” take me away experience. A big Thanks goes out to the awesome readers at Crossroads Middle School who I had the privilage of meeting with this morning.  They all shared their favorite reads, wow they were so passionate.  What a great way to start off the weekend.  Some of their favorites include, Holes, Lightning Thief, The Sea of Monsters, 39 Clues, Beautiful Creatures, Brisingr, and The Compound.  Keep on Reading!

Since this weekend is calling for bone-chilling temperatures, turn off the TV & snuggle up with a good book.  Make this a family affair…think living room fire lit, hot chocolate ready, blankets & pillows out, and everyone gathering with a good book.  This will be a wonderful way to bond, encourage reading & quiet time and enjoy a new book (or finish an old one that has been gathering dust on your bedside table!)
